If you could have one superpower, what would it be: To speak every language in the world
Over the course of your life, how many cities have you lived in, and which was your favorite?
I’ve lived in Seattle, WA; Claremont, CA; Quito, Ecuador; Boston, MA; Valencia, Spain; & Los Angeles, CA. Seattle is my favorite city of all of those.
What’s the thing you love most about Seattle?
While the winter months may leave something to be desired (it doesn’t actually rain that much, but it is dark), the beautiful, long summer days compete with anywhere in the world. The fresh air, green trees, and bodies of water interwoven through diverse neighborhoods make me feel at home like nowhere else.
If you could be anywhere other than where you are right this minute, where would you be, and why?
Completing a yoga teacher training in India. When I graduated from college and stopped playing soccer competitively, yoga came into my life and helped fill that void by providing me with a new physical practice to improve upon. It’s one of my goals to do a teacher training in the birthplace of the practice so I can share it with others.
What’s the biggest thing people often don’t know about govtech or permitting?
Permitting may sound boring, but it’s at the heart of local government operations. The permitting process is an impactful opportunity for community members to positively interact with their local government, and even more importantly, permitting informs how we build and shape the places we live.
What’s your favorite ViewPoint memory?
Seth recently came out to the Los Angeles office to help with new-hire training and we had a ball riding electric scooters along the boardwalk from Santa Monica to Venice. The best moment was seeing him touch the Pacific Ocean for the first time!
What’s something you’re looking forward to about this coming year at ViewPoint?
Building off of the launch of our new Los Angeles office, I’m excited for us to work with partners in new regions across the country!
What’s your all-time favorite TV show or movie?
The Wire, hands down. I wish there were more modern shows and movies aimed at representing the complexities of real life and educating people about the experiences of others they wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to.
What are you currently binge-watching, or your current favorite TV show?
Parks and Recreation! Local Government in mainstream media for the win!
Who is someone you admire, and why?
My grandma is one of my greatest heroes. She’s a person who goes through life with the quiet grace of someone who’s spent decades giving to others, without the expectation of reciprocity or recognition. She regularly takes time for reflection and self-improvement, practicing self-love without self-pity. She never stops educating herself, and she’s shown me how to be strong, how to have discipline in thinking beyond myself.
What is the greatest piece of advice you’ve been given?
Life is now. Pay attention or you might miss the whole thing.
